Introduction

SNUSD offers 19 different majors spanning 10 clinical, and 9 direct interdisciplinary researches that combine dentistry with related subjects in biological sciences, materials science, humanities, and social sciences. Faculty also collaborate within the SNUSD to conduct studies of extensive scope that traverse areas of specialization in clinical dentistry

Goals of education

School of Dentistry in Seoul National University aims to develop dentistry through research and education for dentistry, natural sciences and engineering, and serve the nation and mankind by training talented experts at the international level.
School of Dentistry in Seoul National University aims to develop dentistry through academic research in which the dentistry is combined with academic backgrounds of students because those who have various and broad academic backgrounds conduct dental research.
We aim to have international competitiveness in each area by having the healthcare environment in which research, education and treatment are efficiently coordinated in the globalization era. We actively support the collaborative research of advanced subjects in each area by close collaboration with world renown Universities.
We make efforts to improve welfare of the mankind by performing the research and education with the responsibility to develop dentistry once we recognize the implementation of education philosophy as national project and our responsibility.

Master Program

Selection of advisor professor	Once selecting an advisor professor in the department within 1 year after he/ she enters the school, he/ she must report it to the dean of the graduate school through approval of the department chairman. However, he/ she usually determines an advisor through interviews with professor who he/ she wish to have as an advisor as soon as he/ she enters.
Selection of thesis committee (Status of thesis committee)	After the advisor professor selects members by the third semester, he/ she must report it to the dean of the graduate school through approval of the department chairman. The number of committee members including an advisor professor is 3.
Completion of program	The period for the master program is 2 years. In addition, he/ she must earn at least 24 credits while taking the courses in more than 2 semesters. (※ Thesis research is elective. It may cover up to 6 credits) GPA of courses which he/ she takes is at least 3.0.
Qualifying exam for submission of thesis	He/ she must pass the qualifying exam for submission of thesis in order to take all required courses together with research and submit a thesis. - Students who earn 9 credits or more while he/ she is enrolled in the master program in our graduate school for at least 2 semesters. - Standards for English test score : 551 or higher in TEPS 551, 77 or higher in TOEFL (IBT), 210 or higher in TOEFL (CBT) (For students who entered before 2011, 601 or higher in TEPS, 210 or higher in TOEFL (CBT)) - Students who get 60 out of 100 in the comprehensive major exam. - For international students, they must pass a Korean language or a second language exam (except mother language). In addition, once international students take either Korean language and Korean culture 1 or 2, they must get the grade of “C-“ or higher or “S”. * Students must complete environment safety course prior to submission of application form. Students who do not take the course cannot take the qualifying exam.
Submission of thesis to be reviewed	Students must submit 3 copies of thesis to be reviewed by end of May or end of November for the spring semester or the fall semester, respectively.
Review of thesis	Students must pass the thesis presentation and review consisting of major exam/ thesis oral exam.
Submission of result report of review of thesis	Chairman of the committee writes a report and submits it by end of June or end of December for the spring semester or the fall semester, respectively.
Graduation and Degree Ceremony	Winter graduation ceremony (February 26th, every year), Summer graduation ceremony (end of August, every year)

Ph.D. Program

Selection of advisor professor	Once an advisor professor in the department is selected within 1 year of entry into the school, he/ she must report it to the dean of the graduate school through approval of the department chairman. However, (the student should also) determines an advisor through interviews with professor whom he/ she wish to have as an advisor as soon as he/ she enters.
Selection of thesis committee (Status of thesis committee)	After the advisor professor selects members by the third semester, he/ she must report it to the dean of the graduate school through approval of the department chairman. There are 5 committee members including an advisor professor and the committee must include at least one professor from other schools. Once the advisor professor submits the list of committee members, it will be approved by the graduate school council.
Completion of program	The period for the Ph.D. program is 2 years. In addition, he/ she must earn a minimum of 36 credits while taking the courses in more than 4 semesters. For master/ Ph.D. integrated program, he/ she must earn a minimum of 60 credits. ※ Thesis research is an elective program. Ph.D. : 6 credits, integrated program : 12 credits are recognized. GPA of the courses which he/ she takes should be at least 3.0.
Qualifying exam for submission of thesis	Thesis proposal presentation must be done within 4 semesters of the Ph.D. program with more than 60 % of the thesis committee members attending the event. Written proposal is the option of an advisor professor. He/ she must submit abstract, written proposal and copy of the result report to the department office. - Subjects : (It is applied to students who are enrolled after 2002. Within 6 semesters for students who are enrolled before 2001) - Once a specific period is determined, it is performed at once. - He/ she must take efforts to take advantage of the opportunity to improve abilities of planning the research through thesis proposal.
Publication in international Journals(authorized by graduate school)	He/ she will be eligible to take the qualification exam for Ph.D, only after he/ she publishes a paper in the international journal authorized by our graduate school or submit the certificate for a paper to be published. His/ her qualification will be reviewed once the document for a paper published in the international journal is submitted.
Submission of thesis to be reviewed	Students must submit 5 copies of thesis for review by end of May in spring semester or end of November in fall semester.
Review of thesis	Students must pass the major oral exam, thesis oral exam, thesis presentation and review.
Submission of result report of review of thesis	Chairman of the committee writes a report and submits it by end of June for Spring semester and end of December for fall semester.
Graduation and Degree Ceremony	Winter graduation ceremony is on February 26th, every year and Summer graduation ceremony is on end of August, every year.
