Background, Purpose and History of Establishment
The objective of the Dental Research Institute are to develop new methods for disease prevention diagnosis, and treatment, through studies of theory and clinical application of dentistry, and to undertake researches concerned with the development of dental care in order to enhance the public health status of the omprovement of national oral health by screening imported medical instruments, dental biomaterials and drugs.

Research on evaluations, continuing developments, and applications of various biomaterials, including maxillofacial reparative and regenerative materials, their related biological factors, and biodynamics and bioelectronics
- Oromaxillofacial Reconstruction Stem Cell Research Section
Research on the reconstruction of oral maxillofacial tissue using embryonic and adult stem cells and the development of corresponding generic techniques
- Hard Tissue Biology Research Section
Research for a better understanding of bone remodeling, the genetic predisposition to maxillofacial deformities, and the development of efficient regeneration methods of hard tissues
- Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Research Section
Research on tissue regeneration in the oral and maxillofacial area using adult stem cells via tissue engineering technology and genetic research on diverse congenital deformities and their treatments
- Saliva and Biofilm Research Section
Research on the saliva formation and secretion regulatory mechanisms, saliva proteins and artificial saliva, and on biofilm formation mechanisms and associated diseases

Provide support for each research team for efficient research activities

Research on neuroscience, infection-immunity issues, new dental imaging technologies, and oral and maxillofacial tumors

This high-technology facility of 726.420 square meters is capable of accommodating various laboratory animals such as SPF rodents and medium-large animals including rabbits and dogs. The facility enables the experiments using transgenic animals kept in a clean environment and surgical experiments done on laboratory animals. Specialized veterinarians and technicians for laboratory animals currently supporting a wide variety of preclinical experiments
