Seoul National University School of Dentistry’s Emeritus Professor Yung-soo Kim (right), a class of 15 graduate,
made a generous donation of 100 million won (approximately $83,500) to the SNUSD 100th Anniversary
Commemoration Fund.
In response, Seoul National University held a ceremony at the Gwanak Campus on April 14, 2020 (Tues) which
was attended by major school officials, including President Oh Se-jung of SNU(right) and dean Jung-Suk Han of SNUSD
to deliver an appreciation plaque to Professor Emeritus Yung-soo Kim.
Emeritus Professor Yung-soo Kim said, “As a teacher who has been studying at Seoul National University for a long time,
I am glad to make a meaningful donation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of SNUSD in 2022.
I hope that many alumni participate in the donation as well. I will continue to support the students who are also my juniors
with a humble attitude and constantly strive to seek for ways to bring development to dentistry.”
President Oh Se-jung expressed his gratitude by exclaiming, “Professors Kim who has greatly contributed to the development
of national healthcare as an authority in orthodontics and implants, has made a generous donation.
This donation will be used to cultivate a new generation of dental talents who will lead in social contribution.”
In 1987, when knowledge of implants was insufficient, Professor Yung-soo Kim was the first professor in Korea to introduce
bone-adhesive implants. He received his masters and doctorate degree from Seoul National University.
He was the founder of the Korean Academy of Stomatognathic Function and Occlusion, and served as the director of
Korea Dental Insurance Manager Association, Asian Academy of Prosthodontics, and Asian Academy of Osseointegration.
He was also the former Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and a director of Dental Research Institute at SNUSD.
