Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Overview
Major in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has mouth (oral), chin (jaw) and face as subjects of research. We strive to train students and professional staffs for professional diagnosis, various basic & clinical studies on various diseases, trauma and congenital or acquired deformities in above areas.
Research areas
  • Oral cancer research
We are performing studies on diagnosis, prevention, treatment and prognostic analysis of cancers occurring in Oral and Maxillofacial areas by using molecular biological methods. We are studying cancer markers, treatment strategies by stages and areas, development of effective anti-cancer agents against oral squamous cell carcinoma, effects of lymph node metastasis on prognosis of cancer and correlation between cancer and anorexia.
  • Culture of the teeth and maxillary bone by using tissue engineering
Research is carried out to transplant teeth and entire maxillary bone by using tissue engineering.
  • Development of artificial neurons and artificial mucosal membranes
We are carrying out the experiments for making environments for peripheral nerve regeneration and for mass culture of oral keratinocytes for development of mucosal flaps required for oral reconstruction.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of Cleft Palate and Cleft Lip and snoring
We are studying the mechanism of occurrence of Cleft Palate and Cleft Lip and making efforts to establish effective therapeutic procedures. In addition, we systematically analyze the causes of snoring and study therapeutic procedures by using surgery, radiofrequency and laser.
  • Maxillofacial deformities
We are conducting the research and development of mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired deformities such as mandibular prognathism, facial asymmetry, and cleft palate and cleft lip
  • Reconstruction of maxillary bone, tongue and artificial teeth implantation
We strive to restore maxillary functions through placement of artificial teeth together with reconstitution of the alveolar bone, maxillary bone, tongue and palate upon the loss of maxillary bone.
