Introduction
Department of periodontology diagnoses and treats diseases occurring in gums surrounding the teeth or bone tissues such as chronic periodontitis, inflammatory gingival hyperplasia, viral diseases in oral soft tissues, transplantation and cosmetic surgery of gums and regeneration of the alveolar bone, and performing the placement of artificial teeth (implant).
Gums must be healthy to maintain healthy teeth for a long time. As if the foundation must be solid to build a strong building, healthy gums are foundations of healthy teeth.
Department of periodontology is performing various treatments such as the calculus removal (tooth scaling) which is the most important and basic procedure, periodontal surgery to get healthy forms of gums such as root planning, aesthetic treatment to make normal shape when the aesthetic problems are caused by abnormal height of gums, length of tooth or color of gums and implant procedures to place the artificial tooth.
Research areas
-
Tissue restoration
Evaluation of tissue compatibility and functionality of synthetic and natural polymer based biomaterials for tissue restoration
-
Tissue engineering
Evaluation of functionality by activating the dental membrane of inducing the bone formation and tissue restoration, porous support, bone grafting agents and implant surface with cell physiological activating factors
-
Drugs for treatment
Study to maximize the effects of treatments by delivering drugs for tissue restoration treatment such as tissue growth factors and bone formation proteins through a topical delivery system
-
Implant
Studies on the long-term stability of implants and long-term clinical results of bone augmentation upon implant treatments
